WillSafe UK
vs Hargreaves Lansdown.
Hargreaves Lansdown's will service is bundled into their wealth management offering. Here's when it's relevant.
Hargreaves Lansdown's will service is primarily a perk for their wealth management clients. It's bundled with their broader estate-planning offering (probate, inheritance tax planning, trust structures). If you're already an HL client with significant assets and want one provider doing it all, it's convenient. If you're not, you're paying significantly more for a service designed around different needs.

- Joined-up estate planning if you already use HL for ISAs, SIPPs and investments
- Solicitor-drafted with platform-aware advice (your HL pension, ISA, GIA all considered together)
- Inheritance tax planning expertise built into the offering
- Trust structures available where genuinely needed
- Not really a standalone 'just a will' product — designed as part of a wider relationship
- Higher cost reflects the wealth-management context, not the legal document complexity
- Slower turnaround (solicitor-led, 1-3 weeks typical)
- You don't have a HL Wealth relationship (or one rich enough to qualify for the free will tier)
- You want a standalone will, not a bundled estate-planning relationship
- You'd rather pay a small amount upfront than thousands in annual platform fees for the perk
- You're already a HL Wealth client with significant AUM
- Your estate is large enough that integrated inheritance tax planning is genuinely worth £200-£500+
- You want one provider managing pension nomination, ISA beneficiaries, and will in concert
The document is legally identical.
Every Will that complies with section 9 of the Wills Act 1837 — signed by you in the presence of two qualifying witnesses, who both sign in your presence — has the same legal weight in England & Wales. The difference between providers is price, process, and what happens after you sign.

Plain-English questions UK searchers actually ask before choosing a will provider. Reply to richard@compareengineering.com if yours isn't here.
01Is the Hargreaves Lansdown will service free?+
Only for certain Hargreaves Lansdown Wealth clients above an asset threshold. For most people, the service costs £200+ via their partner solicitor firms. Check their current pricing on hl.co.uk.
02Do I need a wealth manager to write my will?+
No. A will is a self-help document under English & Welsh law (section 9 Wills Act 1837). Wealth managers like HL bundle wills with broader services, but the will itself can be written cheaply via a template like WillSafe and is legally identical.
03When is the HL service genuinely worth the money?+
When your estate is large enough (typically £500k+ in non-pension assets) that integrated inheritance tax planning matters, AND you're already on the HL platform. For a £100-300k estate without complex trust needs, a £40 WillSafe template signed correctly does the legal job.
Editorial note. Competitor pricing and features are correct to the best of our knowledge as of 2026-05. Each competitor's offering changes over time — check their own site for current rates before deciding. WillSafe UK sells self-help templates; we are not a firm of solicitors and nothing on this page constitutes legal advice. Will-writing is not a reserved legal activity in England & Wales under the Legal Services Act 2007.
