WillSafe UK
vs Saga.
Saga's will service targets the 50+ demographic. Here's how it compares to a modern DIY kit.
Saga's will service is solicitor-written via partner firms and aimed squarely at the 50+ market who prefer a recognisable brand and human contact. It's a fair offering for its audience. WillSafe is a modern DIY alternative for the same demographic — same legal outcome, much faster, much cheaper, and the editable Word file means your kids inherit a document they can re-use as their own template.

The document is legally identical.
Every Will that complies with section 9 of the Wills Act 1837 — signed by you in the presence of two qualifying witnesses, who both sign in your presence — has the same legal weight in England & Wales. The difference between providers is price, process, and what happens after you sign.

Plain-English questions UK searchers actually ask before choosing a will provider. Reply to richard@compareengineering.com if yours isn't here.
01Is the Saga Will Service better than a DIY kit for older people?+
It depends on confidence with digital tools and personal preference. Saga's service is solicitor-led with phone consultation — appropriate for someone who wants a human voice and a recognisable brand. A DIY kit like WillSafe produces a legally-identical Will at £40 vs £200+, but the user signs without a solicitor present. Both are valid; the £160 question is how much hand-holding you want.
02Is a solicitor-written will legally stronger than a template?+
Not legally stronger. Section 9 of the Wills Act 1837 sets the requirements for a valid Will; once met, the legal weight is identical. A solicitor-written Will can be more carefully worded for unusual situations and can be defended more easily if challenged on competence grounds — but for a standard family situation, the outcome is the same.
03When is Saga genuinely worth £200+?+
When you specifically value the regulated solicitor relationship (e.g. for evidence of capacity in case of family dispute), or when your estate involves something the templates don't cover well — overseas property, complex trust needs, contested family situations.
