The honest read
● What Farewill is best at
  • Strongest UK brand for online wills — most reviews, most volume
  • Telephone will service with a paralegal walking you through it
  • Established charity partnership programme (RSPCA, BHF, Cancer Research)
  • Probate service if you also need probate help later
  • Trustpilot 4.9 with 17,000+ reviews — biggest social-proof moat in the category
● Where their flow can fall short
  • Most expensive option for a straightforward situation
  • You don't keep an editable copy — any change is a new will or a paid amendment
  • Telephone will is up to a 1-hour booking, not always same-day
  • Their online product is template-driven (same as ours, more polished UI), but the legal document is functionally equivalent
Which is right for you
Choose WillSafe UK if you're
  • Confident DIY-er — you've read the kit's instructions and can sign with two witnesses
  • Couples wanting mirror wills under £60
  • Landlords (cohabiting partners, multi-property) where the template tracks specific property types
  • Anyone who wants to keep an editable Word file to update over time without paying again

Frequently asked

Honest answers.

Plain-English questions UK searchers actually ask before choosing a will provider. Reply to richard@compareengineering.com if yours isn't here.

01Is Farewill better than WillSafe UK?
+

It depends on whether you want a human on the phone (Farewill) or the same document at 60% less cost in editable Word format (WillSafe). Both produce Wills Act 1837–compliant Wills for England & Wales. Farewill is appropriate for first-time writers who want hand-holding; WillSafe is appropriate for DIY-confident people, couples on a budget, and anyone who wants to keep an editable copy.

02How much does Farewill cost?
+

As of 2026-05, Farewill charges £100 for a single online will, £120 for a telephone will with a paralegal, and £150 for couples mirror wills. They also offer Will Storage at £20/year and probate services from £540.

03What's the difference in legal validity?
+

There is none. Both Farewill's templates and WillSafe's templates produce a Will that is legally valid under section 9 of the Wills Act 1837, provided you sign it in front of two qualifying witnesses. Neither service is a firm of solicitors. Will-writing is not a reserved legal activity in England & Wales.

04Why is WillSafe cheaper?
+

Two reasons. First, our overhead is lower — no call centre, no expensive marketing. Second, we sell an editable Word file plus PDF; Farewill sells a final PDF only and charges for amendments. We pass that on as a lower price and let you make changes yourself.

Editorial note. Competitor pricing and features are correct to the best of our knowledge as of 2026-05. Each competitor's offering changes over time — check their own site for current rates before deciding. WillSafe UK sells self-help templates; we are not a firm of solicitors and nothing on this page constitutes legal advice. Will-writing is not a reserved legal activity in England & Wales under the Legal Services Act 2007.
